• Bienvenidos a la clase Español          Hola

Welcome to Westampton Middle School, and to our Spañish class. I am looking forward to an exciting year as your child’s Spanish teacher. Just a few things to start the year off right…

World Language classes are held for 55 minutes every other day. All students are expected to be prepared for class each day by having supplies, homework, folder, paper and pencils with erasers.

Trying to make clear to all my students the kind of behavior I expect in the classroom, I have compiled a list of class rules and expectations.

    Grading Determination

Students grades will be based on Tests/ Project, Quizzes, Homework completion, Effort, Class participation / Class work.

The marking period grade will be calculated using the following: Tests/ Projects 40%, quizzes 30%, class work/ participation 20%, homework 10% ).

    Test

Tests are given at the end of every Chapter.  It is the student’s responsibility to make up test. Students will assigned at least one project each marking period.

To make you aware that Project, Quizzes, and Tests are posted on Señora Friedman website. (Still under…)

    Quizzes

Will cover 1-2 sections, they will be announced a couple days in advance and will be posted on the Website.

Pop quizzes may be given from time to time to reinforce what they learn. I always provide a Study Guide.

    Homework

Homework will be assigned once or twice a week.  If the student is absent he/she needs to ask for the assignment and turn it in the next day. Homework is due the day it is due. All assignments will be listed in my website and will be checked at the beginning of the class. Homework may be turned up to 1 days for half credit. Copying any assignment is an automatic zero for all parties involved.

    Class Participation and Effort

Students are expected to come to class prepared- arrive on time with their folder, notebook, agendas, homework and vocabulary worksheets and ready to learn. Many class activities require students to work in groups. You need to listen, work together, and be respectful to other students and teacher.

The only way to learn another language is to use it. Class participation allows students to practice their participation and language skills.  Class participation is also part of their grade, is a must in order to evaluate student’s speaking skills.

    Curriculum

The World Language curriculum at WMS develops listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, as well as an awareness and tolerance for the different cultures and traditions associated with Spanish Speaking Countries.

I always encourage children to ask questions when they do not understand!

    Tutoring

I am always willing to work with students during Activity period if they would like help, as long as the student makes a visible effort to do his/her best.  I will make myself available.

Suggestions for success in your Spañish Class.

*Listen carefully in class and ask questions if you don’t understand.

    *Use what you already know.

*Do not wait until the last minute study.

    *Make flashcards.

*Study for a few minutes every night.

*Try to practice vocabulary and grammar with a friend or classmate.

*Plan to see me during activity period for extra help.

*Above all, remember to have fun, learn as much as you can because the more you know, the easier it will be for you to relax--- and that will make your learning easier and more effective.

             .
