• Westampton Middle School Physical Education

    Mission Statement

The goals of our physical education program are directed toward the same general goals that give purpose to all learning processes of the total educational program.  Our physical education program will provide every student equal opportunity to grow through varied experiences that promote active participation and commitment to lifelong, health-related fitness and well-being, using enjoyable physical activity.

The Westampton School District's physical education program development, expansion, and implementation will be consistent with the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards; National Education Association resolutions; The American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance stated outcomes of "quality physical education programs", and our stated education philosophy.

    Philosophy

The Westampton Township Public School District believes that a comprehensive physical education program, which challenges students to strive toward their optimal potential in physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being, is essential to the total education program.  An effective physical education program balances and contributes to children's success in academic and creative learning.  The healthy, physically active child is more likely to be academically motivated, alert, and successful.

The school district recognizes that physical education makes a unique contribution to the total education program when it provides students with psychomotor, cognitive, and affective goals.  Through active participation in a variety of enjoyable activities, the learner acquires knowledge of skills, which provide a foundation for lifelong commitment to physical activity and its inherent health benefits.  Every student is capable of achieving an individual level of fitness and well being which fosters self-esteem.  The physical education experience provides opportunities for social competencies by transcending language and cultural barriers to promote multi-cultural understanding and global awareness.  Students learn to respect the diversity, uniqueness and dignity of others.  Throughout, physical education promotes the physical, mental, emotional and social skills that are viewed by educators as essential for success in school and life.
