    MY PASSION

Since beginning my graduate program, I have developed a passion for community education and the importance of inclusion for special education students in various parts of the world. In 2013, I traveled with Teachers College, Columbia University to Ghana, Africa to do just that. During our visit, we worked with various hospitals and schools to educate teaching staff on innovative ways to bring inclusion to their classrooms. We provided these institutions with books and teaching materials, as well as methods for differentiating instruction to students of various abilities.

I invite you to watch the following two documentaries that outline my universities continued work with the educators and residence of Ghana.

AAC Market Cards – AAC market cards were created to facilitate community engagement with students with special needs.

Professional Development Retreat – This professional development program was created to educate teachers on new methods of instruction.

    EDUCATION

In 2010, I graduated from The College of New Jersey with my bachelors degree in Communication Studies and a minor in Communication Disorders. I entered my graduate program in 2010 at Teachers College, Columbia University in New York City and completed my Masters of Science in Speech Language Pathology in 2013.

    EXPERIENCE

I have had the opportunity to work with a diverse population of individuals since beginning my career as a speech and language pathologist. During my graduate studies, I completed internships at two notable New Jersey hospitals: JFK in Edison and Robert Wood Johnson in New Brunswick. During these placements I worked with both acute and sub acute injuries resulting in a range of impairments including: dysphagia (swallowing difficulty), dysarthria, and aphasia. I also worked with a pre-school program designed around social development with children diagnosed with Autism.

Following completion of my graduate studies, I completed a one year fellowship with Genesis Rehabilitation Services where I worked with short-term and long-term rehabilitation patients where my work focused on cognitive rehabilitation in the geriatric population. Even with my transition into the educational setting, I still complete per-diem work with this company.

In 2014, I began my career as a school speech therapist and could not be happier with my transition! Beginning in October 2014, I worked at  theWestampton Middle School and managed the pre-school and grades 5-8 caseload. I was provided with the opportunity to transfer to the elementary school for the 2015-2016 school year and absolutely love my decision.

    ON A PERSONAL NOTE…
